Your Part in Our Mission:


We are seeking a part-time, fully remote San Diego city editor who will assume responsibility for local San Diego-area content. The ideal city editor is an adventurer at heart with a passion for exploring the San Diego area with her/his kid(s). We’re looking for someone who knows what makes each neighborhood unique and cool, lives in the San Diego area, and can easily adapt to our brand voice. Enthusiasm for expanding our presence in the market and undying love for the area certainly helps, too!

This job is work-from-home, but requires the flexibility and enthusiasm to attend press events, openings, and explore new places with their family (COVID restrictions applicable, of course).


You will …

  • Write & Edit!
    • You’ll be responsible for all the content that goes into our San Diego newsletters, with eight featured stories per month. Half of these stories will be written and updated by you. The other half will be assigned out and edited by you, so experience working with freelance writers and meeting deadlines is a must.

  • Live and Breathe Content Strategy
    • You will manage the San Diego editorial calendar, so using a combination of know-how, metrics, and trends to create a robust, on-point, and relevant editorial calendar for the San Diego market. This includes regular updates and SEO optimization of additional stories beyond your core eight.

  • Produce Content That Shines
    • Familiarity with a CMS, especially WordPress, is a huge bonus. You’ll be responsible for making sure every story is filed correctly in WordPress, including edits and photo sourcing.

  • Curate the Family Events Calendar
    • You will be THE voice of the family events calendar, scouring both online and off to fill the calendar with a well-curated, diverse range of events. Each week you will write the weekend roundup, to let parents in the area know what not to miss for the upcoming weekend.

You are a …

  • Dynamic manager who has worked with freelance writers and handled an editorial calendar in the digital media space. You love content strategy!

  • Parent or caregiver to kids (between the ages of 0-10) and are active in the parenting community. You love family adventures and can’t wait to share your latest discoveries and hidden gems

  • Deadline oriented person who does not miss deadlines.

  • Eagle-eyed editor adept at WordPress.

Requirements

You must have …

  • SEO experience.

  • Experience writing content for digital platforms.

  • Great communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.
